Paralysis, Quadriplegia & Paraplegia

Medical Malpractice and Paralysis Lawyer in Boston

Back injuries must be examined by a doctor in order to prevent further damage from occurring. Unfortunately, many back injuries are dismissed by medical personnel and progress to the severe stage of paralysis, paraplegia or quadriplegia. If you have suffered a back injury that was aggravated by the wrong type of care, was misdiagnosed by a doctor or completely dismissed as another type of injury or condition, you may have a claim for medical malpractice.

We at the law office of Barry D. Lang, M.D. & Associates offer qualified representation in a wide range of medical malpractice cases, including those resulting in paralysis, paraplegia or quadriplegia. Doctor Barry Lang uses his medical and legal knowledge in order to thoroughly construct a case on your behalf.

Medical negligence can cause paralysis in a number of circumstances, including:

  • Neck Trauma: Failure to stabilize a patient's neck properly after an accident or incident can lead to permanent paralysis and even death. If a fracture of any of the vertebrae in the neck is unstabilized, it can slide and sever the spinal cord.
  • Cauda Equina Syndrome: If you have suffered a back injury, cauda equina syndrome can follow. This condition, characterized by the compression of nerves in the back, can lead to permanent bowel and bladder paralysis, as well as lower extremity weakness. Doctors must be aware of the extent of your injury and carefully monitor any changes in a patient's condition in order to prevent cauda equina as much as possible.
  • Birth Injury Resulting in Paralysis: A traumatic birth can result in partial or total paralysis in the newborn. Erb's palsy is partial arm paralysis that is the result of the baby's shoulder becoming stuck behind the mother's pelvis. There are several maneuvers that can be done if this occurs, but some doctors are not as experienced and get nervous, making a quick move.
  • Failure to Diagnose Spinal Cord Injury: After the entrance of a needle into the back, an epidural abscess or epidural hematoma may develop. If this situation is not diagnosed properly, the symptoms can progress from tingling and weakness to temporary or permanent paralysis.
