What is Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)?

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is typically a closed head injury where the brain is bruised or small blood vessels in the brain rupture or tear, causing bleeding in the brain, which in turn can kill brain tissue or cause permanent brain damage. Traumatic brain injury also includes the bruising, tearing, and swelling of the brain. Most often TBI is the result of an auto accident, or other accident where the head is struck, or tremendous force is applied to the brain (such as coming to a sudden stop, like a car or truck accident).

One of the problems is that a tiny tear or small bruise can be difficult to detect, and can have dramatic long term affects on the accident victim. If you were involved in a serious accident, and have developed headaches, memory loss, sleep disorder, fatigue, seizures, mood swings, or slurring your words, you may have a brain injury. We recommend contacting your doctor, and then contacting an experienced attorney who understands the nature and extent of a brain injury.
