Types of Workers' Compensation Benefits

Seek the Help of an Experienced Boston Workers' Comp Lawyer

If you have been injured in a work-related accident, consider seeking a workers' compensation attorney to represent you. Every situation is different and the employer and insurance company is not always going to look out for your best interests. An experienced and effective attorney will. Contact the law firm of Barry D. Lang, M.D. & Associates for more information about obtaining a worker' comp attorney.

Benefits Available to Injured Workers

Every work-related injury is different, which is why there is more than one type of workers' compensation benefit. In addition to medical benefits, there are four different types of disability benefits. They include:

  • Temporary total disability: the majority of workers' comp disability; it compensates for when your injury prevents you from working for a limited time. Workers know they can eventually return to work.
  • Temporary partial disability: the same as temporary total disability except the scope of your injury does not limit all of your working abilities.
  • Permanent partial disability: you are permanently injured, however it partially limits your ability to work.
  • Permanent total disability: your injury has completely incapacitated you from ever working again.

Rehabilitation

Worker's compensation also covers rehabilitation costs. This includes both physical and vocational rehabilitation. For work-related injuries, therapy and rehabilitation may be required and these expenses are covered. If your injury prevents you from returning to your original employment, vocational rehabilitation is also covered. This includes retraining, tuition and any other expenses associated with career rehabilitation.

Workers' Comp Settlements

A lump-sum payment settlement is also an option. This is negotiated between your attorney and the insurance company. However, you must carefully consider this before accepting a settlement. If you accept a settlement, that is the extent of your recovery.
