Negligence allegations haunt former neurosurgeon

Although a professional level of care is expected of any surgeon, perhaps no procedure is as intimidating as neurosurgery.

Given those expectations, a recent account of a former neurosurgeon is particularly troubling. According to one former colleague's characterization, the neurosurgeon delivered a standard of care akin to that of a serial killer. Notably, the neurosurgeon no longer holds a medical license in the state where he used to practice.

Specifically, the neurosurgeon used to hold a position at Baylor Regional Medical Center, where he was the subject of several allegations involving patient injuries. In fact, the neurosurgeon was even suspended for a two-week period. Yet for unexplained reasons, none of those allegations were listed on the neurosurgeon’s record when he left his position in 2012. Instead, the hospital’s official position was that he had a clean record.

The 42-year-old former neurosurgeon has reportedly been working as a bioscience consultant, as well as a researcher. When asked for his version of the allegations, the man claimed that he was the victim of character attacks, perhaps motivated by rivalries or jealousies.

In another former colleague’s account, the former neurosurgeon may have failed to pay heed to injuries occurring during an actual surgery. The colleague described excessive blood loss, but when he voiced his concern, he was reportedly ignored.

A medical malpractice attorney knows that a surgeon’s duty of care includes recognizing any injuries that may occur during a procedure. If a patient believes that he or she was injured due to surgical negligence, an attorney can help investigate the evidence and bring a strong case seeking compensation for losses and pain and suffering.
