Your Rights Matter

Do you fully understand your prescriptions?

You don't want to put anything into your body unless you know what it is and the impact it will have. This is why it is so important to understand your prescriptions. It doesn't matter if you are in the hospital, a nursing facility, or caring for yourself at home, any question related to a medication should be addressed in an accurate manner by a health care professional.

Take for instance somebody who is receiving treatment in a hospital setting. Since you trust your medical team, you may not check on everything they are giving you. Unfortunately, this can lead to a mistake.

It is a good idea to ask about every medication, as this can help you understand what you are getting and how it will make you feel. It can also go a long way in helping you prevent a situation in which you are prescribed the wrong medication for your ailment.

The same holds true when picking up your medication from a local pharmacy. Have you checked to make sure you received the right medication? Have you asked any questions that are weighing on your mind?

Before you leave the pharmacy, you should be 100 percent clear as to what you are taking and how it could impact you. Don't be shy about discussing the medication with your pharmacist.

Every year, thousands of people are injured in prescription drug related accidents. This can be as simple as a pharmacy filling the wrong order.

As a patient, regardless of your health situation, do your best to understand your prescriptions at all times.
