It is very important for medical professionals and hospitals to not act negligently when providing surgical care to a patient. If a medical professional or hospital acts negligently in connection to the performance of a surgery, it can result in a patient suffering serious harms. Such harms can have major impacts on a patient's life.
Recently, a case from Iowa involving a surgery and allegations of negligence has been settled. According to an article on the Iowa City Press-Citizen's website, the case involved a man who reportedly underwent a surgical procedure at a hospital in Iowa in July of 2007.
The man and his family alleged that the man received negligent care during the procedure. According to the man and his family, this alleged negligence caused the man to sustain permanent nerve damage.
The man and his family brought a medical malpractice lawsuit against the hospital in connection to these allegations. As we mentioned above, a settlement was recently reached in regards to this lawsuit. According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen article mentioned above, as part of this settlement, the man and his family will receive a monetary payment.
As the allegations that were made in this recently settled case illustrate, surgical negligence can cause patients to suffer a great deal of harm. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals and hospitals are held accountable when they commit negligence in connection to a surgical procedure. No patient should have to be exposed to negligence by a hospital or medical professional during a surgical procedure.
