Doctor accused of neglecting to provide proper care to newborn

| Dec 28, 2011 | Birth Injuries

Great harm can be caused when doctors act negligently when providing care in connection to the birth of a child. For example, such medical negligence can sometimes result in a child suffering impactful injuries. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to act properly when providing care in connection to the birth of a child.

Recently, a case involving allegations of the above-mentioned type of medical negligence has arisen in Tennessee. The case involves a boy who reportedly was delivered on June 13, 2009.

The boy’s mother alleges that the doctor who delivered the boy acted negligently towards the boy after the boy was delivered. Specifically, the boy’s mother claims that the doctor, without consulting with anyone else, decided that the boy was not going to be able to stay alive and neglected to provide the boy with proper care. The boy’s mother alleges that the doctor’s conduct resulted in the boy being left in a plastic bin for over four hours. A nurse then reportedly saw that the boy was still alive and the boy then received care.

According to the boy’s mother, the boy (who is now a toddler) suffered a variety of injuries, including a brain injury, as a result of the alleged negligence by the above-mentioned doctor.

According to the Tennessean article which reported this story, the boy’s mother has brought a lawsuit on behalf of the boy in a court in Tennessee against the above-mentioned doctor in connection to these allegations. This lawsuit reportedly is asking for compensatory damages.

As the allegations in this case underscore, an infant can suffer great harm when a doctor provides him or her with negligent care in connection to his or her birth. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to not commit negligence when providing care in connection to the birth of a child.
