Oral surgeon and anesthesiologist sued in connection to girl’s death

| Dec 15, 2011 | Surgical Errors

Great harm can be caused when medical professionals act negligently when providing a patient with care in connection to a dental surgery. Tragically, such negligence can sometimes even result in a patient’s death. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to act properly during dental surgeries.

Recently, a medical malpractice case has arisen in Maryland involving a dental procedure. The case involves a 17-year-old girl who reportedly underwent a wisdom tooth surgery. The girl reportedly died from complications that occurred during this surgery.

The girl’s parents allege that an oral surgeon and an anesthesiologist that provided the girl with care during the surgery acted negligently during the surgery.

The girl’s parents have reportedly brought a medical malpractice lawsuit in a court in Maryland against the oral surgeon and the anesthesiologist in connection to the above allegations. The ABC News article which reported this story did not mention what specific relief the girl’s parents are seeking in their lawsuit. One wonders what will happen in this case and how it will ultimately be resolved.

As this case underscores, it can be extremely harmful when medical professionals act negligently during a dental surgery. No patient should have to have his or her health and/or life put at risk because a medical professional failed to act properly when providing him or her with care in connection to a dental procedure. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals who provide patients with care in connection to dental procedures make sure to not commit negligence like that alleged in this case.
