Jury reaches verdict in surgical negligence case

On Behalf of | Feb 15, 2012 | Surgical Errors

No patient should have to experience surgery-related negligence. When a medical professional commits negligence while providing a patient with care in connection to a surgery, it can result in the patient suffering harm. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to not act negligently when it comes to surgical care.

Recently, a jury reached its decision in a case from New York that involved allegations of surgery-related negligence. The case involved a man who reportedly underwent a prostatectomy in January of 2007.

The man claimed that the doctor who performed this surgery, a urologist, committed negligence at the end of this surgery. Specifically, the man alleged that the doctor failed to perform an injury check that he should have prior to closing the man up. According to the man, this alleged surgery-related negligence resulted in him suffering harm.

The man brought a lawsuit in a court in New York against the doctor and the doctor’s practice in connection to these allegations. A trial was held on this matter. As we mentioned above, the jury in this case recently reached its verdict. The jury ruled in favor of the man and awarded him a monetary judgment.

As the allegations that were made in this recently-decided case illustrate, surgery-related negligence can be very harmful to patients. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they act negligently while performing a surgical procedure on a patient. One also hopes that all medical professionals make sure to act properly when it comes to providing surgical care to a patient.
