Case involving allegations of anesthesia-related negligence settled

On Behalf of | Mar 5, 2012 | Anesthesia & Medication Errors

It is very important for medical professionals to not act negligently when it comes to administering anesthesia to patients. Anesthesia-related negligence can cause great harm to a patient. This can be seen in allegations that were made in a now-settled medical malpractice case.

The case was from South Carolina and it involved a woman who reportedly underwent a surgical procedure at a surgical facility.

The woman claimed that the nurse anesthetist who administered anesthesia to her during this procedure acted negligently in connection to the administration of the anesthesia. The woman also accused the doctor who performed the surgical procedure of having committed negligence related to the surgery.

According to the woman, the alleged negligence by the nurse anesthetist and the doctor caused her to suffer an anoxic brain injury and cognitive disabilities.

The woman brought a medical malpractice lawsuit against the above-mentioned surgical facility, nurse anesthetist and doctor in connection to these allegations. As we mentioned above, a settlement was reached in regards to this lawsuit. Reportedly, as part of this settlement, a monetary payment will be made to the woman.

As the allegations that were made in this now-settled medical malpractice case underscore, anesthesia-related negligence can be very harmful. No patient should have to be subjected to anesthesia-related negligence.

Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to act properly when administering anesthesia to patients. One also hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they commit anesthesia-related negligence and such negligence results in a patient suffering harm.
