Surgical negligence can be a very serious matter. No patient should have to suffer harm because a medical professional acted negligently while performing a surgical procedure on the patient. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to make sure to act properly when providing a patient with surgical care.
Recently, a medical malpractice case from Massachusetts that involved allegations of surgical negligence was settled. The case involved a man who reportedly underwent a surgery in October of 2005. The surgery reportedly was performed by a bariatric surgeon from Massachusetts, with a resident assisting. The surgery was an elective laparoscopic surgery.
The man alleged that the above-mentioned bariatric surgeon acted negligently during the procedure. The man claimed that this alleged negligence caused a laceration to his aorta. According to the man, this alleged laceration of his aorta led to him suffering a variety of harms.
The man brought a medical malpractice lawsuit against the bariatric surgeon in connection to these allegations. As we mentioned above, a settlement has recently been reached in regards to this lawsuit. Reportedly, as part of this settlement, a monetary payment will be made to the man. The settlement reportedly does not include any admission of wrongdoing on the part of the bariatric surgeon.
Surgical negligence like that alleged in this recently settled case can be very harmful to patients. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to avoid acting negligently when it comes to surgical care. Surgical negligence is something that no patient should have to experience.
