It can be extremely harmful when medical professionals commit negligence during the course of providing care in relation to the birth of a child. For example, such negligence can cause infants to suffer birth injuries. Birth injuries can have major impacts on infants (both in the short term and the long term). Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to act properly when providing care related to a child birth.
Recently, a jury reached its decision in a birth injury case from Virginia. The case involved a woman who gave birth to a daughter in November 2001. The woman alleged that two obstetricians who provided care in connection to her daughter's birth acted negligently during the course of giving this care. According to the woman, this alleged negligence resulted in her daughter suffering injuries to her brain and her kidneys.
The woman brought a lawsuit in a court in Virginia in connection to these allegations. A trial was held on this matter. Last week, the jury in this case reached its decision. According to the article on the Roanoke Times' website which reported this story, the jury ruled in the woman's favor and awarded her and her daughter a monetary judgment.
Birth injuries can be very harmful to infants. No infant should have to suffer such injuries because a medical professional acted negligently. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to avoid engaging in negligence like that which was alleged in this recently decided case. One also hopes that medical professionals are held accountable for the harm they cause when they provide negligent care during a child's birth.
