A patient can be in a very vulnerable position after undergoing a surgery. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to not act negligently when it comes to the post-surgical care of patients. Patients can suffer significant harm when a medical professional commits negligence while providing him or her with post-surgical care.

Recently, a jury reached a decision in a case that involved allegations of negligent post-surgical care. The case involved a woman who underwent a surgical procedure in 2002 at a hospital in New York. The surgery in question involved the removal of the woman’s sigmoid colon.

After the procedure, the woman received post-surgical care from a New York doctor. The woman alleged that the doctor committed negligence in connection to his care of her. Reportedly, a test that was conducted after the procedure indicated that the woman had acquired a MRSA infection. According to the woman, the doctor failed to take proper actions in response to these test results. Included among the things that the woman claimed that the doctor didn’t do that he should have was order antibiotics for her.

The woman alleged that the doctor’s alleged negligence caused her to suffer a variety of harms, including having to undergo three additional surgeries.

A lawsuit was brought by the woman against the doctor in connection to these allegations. Recently, the jury in this case reached a verdict. The jury ruled against the doctor and awarded the woman a monetary judgment.

One hopes that all medical professionals make sure to avoid committing negligence like that alleged in this recently decided case. No patient should have to suffer harm because a medical professional acted negligently when providing post-surgical care.
