It is very important for medical professionals to act properly when it comes to the surgical care of patients. It can be very harmful when medical professionals commit negligence while providing surgical care to a patient. Tragically, surgical negligence can sometimes even result in a patient’s death.

Recently, a wrongful death case involving allegations of surgical negligence was settled. The case was from Iowa. The case involved a woman who had a surgery in October 2009. The surgery in question was a lap band surgery.

The woman’s estate claimed that two doctors who provided the woman with care in connection to the lap band surgery acted negligently during the procedure. According to the woman’s estate, this alleged negligence led to the woman dying. Reportedly, the woman died less than a month after undergoing the surgery.

The woman’s estate brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the two above-mentioned doctors and a medical clinic in connection to the above allegations. According to the article on the Globe Gazette’s website which reported this story, a settlement has been reached in this case. The article did not have any details regarding what the specific terms of this settlement were.

As the allegations that were made in this recently settled case underscore, surgical negligence can sometimes have fatal results. No patient should have to lose his or her life because a medical professional acted negligently. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they commit negligence like that which was alleged in this case.
