It can be very harmful when a medical professional or medical facility commits negligence during the course of providing post-surgical care to a patient. Sadly, such negligence can sometimes even result in a patient's death. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals and medical facilities to act properly when providing a patient with care after a surgery.
Recently, a jury in Pennsylvania reached its decision in a case that involved allegations of the above-mentioned type of negligence. The case involved a woman who underwent a surgery at a hospital in Pennsylvania in December 2007 after suffering a heart attack. The woman received care at the hospital after the surgery.
It was alleged that negligence occurred in connection to this post-surgical care, including a negligent failure to order tests that should have been ordered. The woman's family and estate claimed that the alleged negligence resulted in the woman's death. The woman reportedly died on December 19, 2007.
The woman's family and estate brought a medical malpractice lawsuit in a court in Pennsylvania against the above-mentioned hospital and a cardiology group in relation to these allegations. A trial was held in regards to this matter and the jury in this case recently reached its decision. The jury ruled in favor of the woman's family and estate and awarded them a monetary judgment.
No individual should have to suffer harm or lose his or her life because a medical professional or medical facility failed to act properly while providing him or her with post-surgical care. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals and medical facilities make sure to avoid committing negligence like that which was alleged in this recently decided medical malpractice case.
