Woman brings lawsuit alleging surgical negligence

| Sep 6, 2012 | Surgical Errors

Patients can suffer serious harms when medical professionals act negligently when providing them with surgical care. Such harms can have significant effects on a patient’s life. Thus, surgical negligence can be very impactful on patients.

Recently, a case has arisen in Illinois involving allegations of surgical negligence. The case involves a woman who reportedly underwent a surgical procedure on Oct. 26, 2011. The procedure in question was an ablation. The surgery reportedly was performed by a doctor in Illinois.

The woman alleges that this doctor acted negligently during the surgical procedure and perforated her uterus. According to the woman, her uterus sustained two perforations during the surgery. The woman further alleges that the doctor failed to notice these perforations.

The woman claims that she suffered many harms as a result of the doctor’s alleged negligence, including:

  • Having to undergo a hysterectomy
  • Pain
  • Peritoneum inflammation

In relation to the above allegations, the woman and her husband have brought a medical malpractice lawsuit in a court in Illinois against the doctor and the organization the doctor worked for at the time of the above-mentioned surgical procedure. The woman and her husband reportedly are asking for damages in this lawsuit. One wonders what will happen in this medical malpractice case and how it will ultimately be resolved.

No surgical patient should have to face negligence like that alleged in this case. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to not act negligently when providing care in relation to a surgical procedure.
