Diagnosis-related negligence can be a very serious matter. When medical professionals act negligently when it comes to the testing, examining or diagnosing of patients, it can result in delays in the detection and treatment of conditions patients suffer from. Such delays can be extremely impactful on patients. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to not commit diagnosis-related negligence when providing care to patients.
Recently, Wicked Local Medford reported on a medical malpractice case from Massachusetts that involves allegations of diagnosis-related negligence. The case involves a girl who reportedly received care from a doctor in August 2005.
The girl's family claims that, during the course of this care, the doctor failed to perform a test that she should have and failed to detect and treat viral meningitis the girl was suffering from. According to the girl's family, this alleged negligence by the doctor caused the girl to suffer permanent brain damage and this damage has had significant impacts on the girl's life.
A medical malpractice lawsuit has been brought by the girl's family against the doctor in connection to these allegations. According to the above-mentioned Wicked Local Medford article, a trial is expected to start today in relation to this lawsuit. One wonders what will ultimately happen in this case.
No patient should have to suffer harm because a medical professional failed to act properly when testing, examining or diagnosing them. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they engage in negligence like that alleged in this case. One also hopes that all medical professionals make sure to not act negligently when providing care to patients.
