Verdict reached in anesthesia negligence case

On Behalf of | Oct 31, 2012 | Anesthesia & Medication Errors

It is very important for medical professionals to not act negligently when it comes to the giving of anesthetics to patients. No patient should have to be subjected to anesthesia-related negligence. Such medical negligence can be very impactful on patients.

Recently, a verdict was reached in a case from Ohio that involved allegations of anesthesia-related negligence. The case involved a woman who underwent a procedure in August 2009. The procedure in question was a closed knee manipulation procedure. The procedure reportedly was aimed at addressing some scar tissue the woman had.

Reportedly, prior to the procedure, an anesthesiologist gave a nerve block injection to the woman. The woman claimed that the anesthesiologist acted negligently in connection to the giving of this injection. Specifically, the woman alleged that the anesthesiologist made the injection in the wrong place.

The woman claimed that this alleged negligence by the anesthesiologist caused her to suffer damage to her femoral nerve. Reportedly, this damage has had impacts on the woman’s ability to use one of her legs.

The woman brought a lawsuit in a court in Ohio in connection to the above allegations. The jury in this case recently reached a verdict. The jury ruled in the woman’s favor and granted her a monetary judgment.

As the allegations that were made in this recently decided case underscore, anesthesia-related negligence can cause a great deal of harm to patients. One hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they commit harmful anesthesia-related negligence when providing care to patients.
