Surgical negligence can be a very serious matter. Patients can suffer great harms when they are subjected to such negligence by medical professionals or medical facilities/organizations. Such negligence can have significant impacts on a patient’s life. No patient should have to suffer harm because a medical professional or medical facility/organization failed to act properly.

Recently, a medical malpractice case has arisen involving allegations of surgery-related negligence. The case is from New Mexico. The case involves a woman who underwent a surgical procedure in July 2011. The surgery in question was a laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.

The woman alleges that the doctor who performed the surgery acted negligently in connection to the surgery and sliced a bile duct during the procedure. According to the woman, the doctor’s alleged actions resulted in her suffering complications and harms.

According to the article on the Albuquerque Journal’s website which reported this story, a lawsuit has been brought in a court in New Mexico by the woman in connection to the above allegations. The lawsuit names the above-mentioned doctor, a medical group the doctor is a member of and a hospital as defendants. It will be interesting to see what happens in this medical malpractice case and how it is ultimately resolved.

As the allegations in this case illustrate, surgical negligence can cause a significant amount of harm to patients. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals and medical facilities/organizations are held accountable when they commit negligence like that alleged in this case. One also hopes medical professionals and medical facilities/organizations make sure to not act negligently when providing surgical care to patients.
