Any kind of accident in Boston that involves a head injury can be dangerous. These happen frequently in motor vehicle crashes. Often, people who suffer injury in an accident don’t even realize they have brain trauma until well after the accident has occurred. It’s important that people are aware of the symptoms of brain trauma so they know to seek treatment as soon as possible.
A couple, their daughter and their daughter’s friend were involved in a car accident which hospitalized the parents and left the friend with a head injury. The group was riding in a Chevy Malibu in the middle lane of the roadway when a Mercedes SUV turned into their lane. The mother had been driving and crashed into the SUV. The 33-year-old male driver of the SUV accepted responsibility for the accident and received a citation for driving recklessly. The 14-year-old friend had surgery for her head injury and also suffered injuries to her leg as well as broken toes. The couple’s daughter had whiplash, but did not need to be hospitalized. The friend had a breathing tube in her throat, but it has since been removed as she recovers in the hospital.
People might not think about the possibility of a car accident when they’re out on the road, but they can happen at any time. Any accident carries with it the possibility of serious injuries and even death. Brain trauma can be among the worst results of an accident as the victim might require extensive hospitalization, rehabilitation and long-term care. With a head injury, the person might never be able to return to normal. Insurance companies will try and avoid costly lawsuits by offering a settlement early in the process as a form of accident compensation. This offer might sound sufficient, but when the true costs of caring for a person with brain trauma are calculated, the settlement is not nearly enough.
In this case, a 14-year-old girl and three other people were hurt in a car crash. The girl suffered the most severe injuries and is recovering from a head injury with her long-term prognosis still unknown. Because of the uncertainty and possibility that she will require significant care, it is important that her parents understand their rights to accident compensation and discuss the matter with an experienced legal professional.
