When you go to the doctor and you get a clean bill of health, you trust that the medical professionals would have found anything that was wrong. Your very life could hang in the balance. If the doctor misses something and fails to diagnose a serious ailment, it could get worse — and even turn fatal — before it’s found.
Experts have noted that doctors often miss some very common and dangerous diseases, one of which is ovarian cancer.
This is a significant issue for numerous reasons, one of which is that this is known to be an aggressive cancer. Missing it can be deadly. Another big reason that this is so serious is that it impacts one out of every 57 women.
If ovarian cancer is caught early, there are effective treatment options. If it goes unchecked, though, tumors can begin to spread throughout the body. They could show up in the abdomen and other areas, rendering treatments far less effective.
This is one of the harder cancers to catch, in part because there aren’t always distinctive symptoms in the early stages of the disease. Additionally, other conditions — which are very common — show the same symptoms. You may have cancer, but your doctor could fail to diagnose it because he or she thinks the symptoms point to menopause, natural aging, or even irritable bowel syndrome. This can delay treatment and leave you with limited options when it’s finally caught.
If this happens, you may be given a terminal diagnosis when simple treatment could have been used earlier to save your life, or you may need more expensive treatment that is more detrimental to your health and well being. Either way, you need to know if you have a right to compensation since the doctors told you that you were healthy when that wasn’t really the case.
