Plastic surgery patients should understand potential problems

| Aug 19, 2017 | Surgical Errors

Plastic surgery is often associated with Hollywood performers who are desperate to look young, or at least less old, at all costs. However, people across the nation, including those in Boston, Massachusetts, go under the knife and get plastic surgery. Unfortunately, there are often surgical errors that adversely affect patients for months, years or the rest of their lives.

Those errors can be clear visually, such as when intended alterations to the person’s appearance make him or her look much worse than he or she did before. Additionally, patients can get infections during surgery that can result in death if left untreated, as the infections spread from the point of surgery to other parts of the person’s body.

Being under anesthesia during the operation can also be very dangerous and result in a plethora of life-altering complications. Of course, one of the worst problems that arises from some instances of plastic surgery is irreparable and devastating damage to nerves and organs. When that happens, the patient can find him or herself with a diminished ability to do basic things in life, like eat and smile.

Hematomas and seromas are also common problems associated with plastic surgery. Hematomas can result in bruised-looking skin, and seromas can result in excruciating pain and swelling, as well as being a source of infections.

All of these conditions are grounds for patients suing for medical malpractice. The patient may sue the doctor who performed the botched plastic surgery operation, other medical personnel who worked with the doctor, the facility where the plastic surgery was performed and the parent company of that facility.

If you are in the position of considering a lawsuit due to surgical errors, you will want to assemble all of the information that you have about the surgery, how it was botched and the effect of it on you. Your attorney can give you a clear understanding of all of the information that you should put together, and how to do it in the most efficient manner possible.
