Boston worker injured in underground accident

| Sep 7, 2018 | Firm News

Last month in Boston, a construction worker on the job at the Landmark Center was injured in the underground site on Park Drive in the Fenway neighborhood after suffering an accident on the job.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., on Aug. 24, witnesses reported that the man’s shirt got entangled in a grinder.

While he was still underground, his injuries required immediate treatment by rescue workers with the Boston Fire Department. After he was stabilized, they were then able to haul him up to the ground level, where EMS took him to a local medical facility for additional treatment, including surgery.

His condition was unknown following the accident.

Any on-the-job accident can be serious, but when it occurs stories under the ground, it can be especially perilous to extract the injured worker without further compromising his health and life.

While the circumstances surrounding this Boston worker’s injuries remain unclear, frequently construction workers get hurt or killed due to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) violations by the companies employing the workers.

Unsafe working conditions on construction sites can kill and maim construction workers. But they can also cost the construction companies lots of money in fines from OSHA, lost man-hours and settlements and judgments for the injured plaintiffs and the survivors of those who were killed in on-the-job accidents.

If you suffer an injury at work, you have the option of filing a worker’s compensation claim. Your treatment will typically be covered by the insurance company for the construction company, so you will have few or no out-of-pocket expenses to cover while you recuperate.

If your injuries are extensive and disabling, you may decide to pursue further legal action against your employer.
